IWC head to London – and you’re invited
By Yasemin Gumushan | 3 minute read
Renowned for its collection of luxury Pilot’s watches, IWC Schaffhausen have taken to the road once more to showcase its Big Pilot exhibition. Not only that, this November you can immerse yourself into a series of IWC unique events and opportunities at Watches of Switzerland throughout November too.
Having visited six cities across the UK, IWC’s touring exhibition presents the perfect opportunity for you to step inside and discover more about the iconic IWC brand and Big Pilot collection. This interactive exhibition is housed in specially converted shipping containers, opening the door the luxury Swiss watchmaker’s world of possibilities. Here you can discover more about the history of the brand, explore some of the newest designs in the iconic Big Pilot collection, and even try them on.
Amongst the watches on display will be a selection of IWC new editions for 2021 such as the Big Pilot’s Watch 43, The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41, two new Top Gun models and a Big Pilot Watch Perpetual Calendar. Pieces from IWC’s valued Spitfire and Portugieser collections will also feature.
Head to Covent Garden between Tuesday 2nd – Monday 8th November and experience IWC’s Big Pilot Exhibition from 10.30am – 6pm (Sunday – 11am – 5pm).
Following the Covent Garden event, here at Watches of Switzerland we are excited to welcome IWC’s Haute Horology Exhibition into our Regent Street showroom. From Monday 8th November – Sunday 14th November, we’re thrilled to showcase some of IWC’s most technical masterpieces at this exclusive exhibition from IWC’s much-coveted Portugieser.
An object lesson in elegant simplicity, the Portugieser is a stand-out offering from IWC. This world-renowned collection boasts distinctive silhouettes combined with imposing dials, classic Arabic numbers, slim feuille hands and railway-track chapter rings – all elements that have remained unchanged since the Portugieser first appeared back in the 1930s. Since then, the design has been developed and updated with the latest technologies and complications, evolving into the brand’s flagship collection.
IWC Museum Curator David Schaffer will also offer an exciting insight into the Haute Horology pieces, as well as their IWC history, at an exclusive event. The talk will take place at Watches of Switzerland Regent Street on Thursday 11th November.

IWC Portugieser Minute Repeater
While this model may look like one of the simplest in the collection, it is no less impressive – it took the watchmakers at IWC Schaffhausen nearly 50,000 hours to perfect the minute-repeater mechanism. What makes this piece even more special is that only 500 pieces of this limited-edition design have been created, and each model is uniquely engraved with its own number.
18-carat 5N gold 44mm case, hand-wound movement, approximate 46-hour power reserve, silver-plated dial, small seconds, minute repeater for hours, quarters and minutes, alligator-leather strap.
IWC Portugieser Sidérale Scafusia
A jewel in the collection’s crown, this model is truly breathtaking. A third dial on the case back tells sidereal time, allowing astrologers to calculate the positions of planets and stars.
Platinum 46mm case, manual-winding movement, approximate 96-hour power reserve, black dial, tourbillon with integrated constant-force mechanism, perpetual calendar with leap year display and absolute day of the year, power reserve indicator, celestial chart showing horizon, sunrise and sunset displays for day, night and twilight, ecliptic and celestial equator, sidereal time, alligator-leather strap.
IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon
With a staggering 7-day power reserve, the movement inside this Portugieser will keep ticking and remain accurate even if not worn for a week.
Platinum 45mm case, automatic movement, approximate 7-day power reserve, silver-plated dial, flying minute tourbillon, perpetual calendar with date, day, month and year displays, perpetual moon-phase indicator, power reserve indicator, alligator-leather strap, water-resistant to 30m, limited to 50 pieces.
