Introducing Bremont Broadsword
By Sarah Jayne Potter | 3 minute read
Since its launch in 2002, Bremont has continued to embrace its British heritage with expertly engineered, luxury, aviation and military inspired chronometers. Widely recognised for its patriotism and reputation for supplying luxury timepieces that are fit for purpose, Bremont began an official partnership with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in 2019, paying tribute to Her Majesty’s armed forces. Bremont has created numerous special-order projects at the request of Personnel from all branches of the British Armed Forces, but these quintessentially British timepieces can also be admired on the wrists of civilians. Following the successful launch of the Armed Forces Collection last year, we are excited to announce the latest addition to the collection: The Broadsword Bronze.
Inspired by Naval Engineering
The Bremont Broadsword was originally designed as a contemporary take on the three handed ‘Dirty Dozen’ watch design, a series of timepieces commissioned for the British Army during WW2 when Britain’s Ministry of Defence needed watches to issue to military personnel.
The inspiration behind the new Broadsword Bronze comes from the historical and extensive use of bronze in marine engineering. Due to the material’s strong resistance and excellent performance against corrosion and weakness from salt water, it was widely used on naval vessels. The beauty of the bronze craftsmanship means that as a ‘living’ metal, each model will develop its own unique patina over time, meaning no two watches will ever look the same. This is a watch that ages with you.
We are still very humble and proud by the recognition that Bremont was given by the MoD to create the Armed Forces Collection. It felt like a great fit to produce the Broadsword in this interesting material, particularly with its use being so crucial in naval history. It has not only been designed and engineered to meet these criteria but also to reflect the needs of Her Majesty’s armed forces today. NICK ENGLISH, CO-FOUNDER OF BREMONT
The new bronze editions will be available in three different coloured dial and strap variations to complement the existing range. The slate dial is accompanied by a grey vintage leather strap, the Sotek (a military green/teal) with a brown nubuck leather strap and the Tobacco with a khaki vintage leather strap. Each edition is synonymous with military colours and strikes a fitting balance between vintage and contemporary design.
Each of the dials features a sub-second hand at 6 o’clock as well as Super-LumiNova on both the dial and hands to complete the original specification for the British Army. The date window sits at 3 o’clock within a 40mm case and the Broadsword Bronze is water-resistant to 100m with a 38-hour power reserve. And not forgetting the stainless-steel case back, proudly displaying the heraldic badges of Her Majesty’s armed forces, this makes for an impressive watch.
Achieving the right balance between a contemporary feel and a nostalgic nod to the classy design of military watches was critical in the design process. NICK ENGLISH, CO-FOUNDER OF BREMONT
